Shiseido Beauty Retreat Theater | Yokohama, March 2025
T&DA unveiled its largest motion art installation to date at the newly launched Shiseido Beauty Retreat Theater, housed within the Shiseido Art & Science Lab in Yokohama. Spanning a 20m x 5m Sony Crystal LED screen, this 16K immersive installation invites viewers on a contemplative visual journey through the four seasons; Hydrating Winter, Blooming Spring, Radiant Summer, and Aging Autumn.
Commissioned to evoke the emotional power of AWE, the series blends data-driven beauty science with real-time cinematic expression. Nearly 90% of viewers in Shiseido’s internal testing reported a heightened emotional response compared to conventional nature footage.
Technical Achievement
This was no ordinary film. With 16K resolution across four 7-minute chapters, it required pioneering a completely new production workflow.
To meet the challenges of ultra-high-resolution LED output, T&DA built the project around Unreal Engine, using it not just as a renderer but as a creative sandbox where we could employ a non-linear, artist-led workflow.
Conceptual Vision
The creative approach mirrored the project’s technical innovation. Each film begins with a serene landscape, dissolving gradually into abstract expressions of the human form, embodying Shiseido’s philosophy that beauty is not something to be seen, but something to be felt.
The purpose of the film was not commercial. Instead, it was a multi-sensory, science-backed meditation on what it means to be human, and a bold step forward for real-time cinematic art.
