At T&DA, we’re used to creative challenges​ but designing solid gold faces that could sing full-throttle opera without terrifying the audience? That was a first.

Teaming up with Jonny Look from Hooves via DDB Melbourne, & led by T&DA’s Creative Director of Design (Simon Robson), this was a genuine blast. ​Jonny’s knack for off-beat, left-of-centre comedy set the tone from day one, giving us the perfect excuse to lean into the weird and wonderful. From emoji-inspired gold medallions with operatic ambitions to characters throwing out rave/hip-hop/opera mash-ups (yes, all at once), this project let us go places animation doesn’t usually get invited to.

T&DA’s design and animation team refin​ed every expression until the comedy landed just right. ​We were given the freedom to push the humour and embrace the sill​y, and there were plenty of moments in the studio where we all cracked up. ​ It’s not every day you get asked to bring musical jewellery to life, and we loved every minute of it.
